Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour & Society

Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour & Society - Carrefour Kuwait
Carrefour Kuwait believes in conducting its operations in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. As such, the company is an active participant in key corporate social responsibility initiatives pioneered by Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

Carrefour Kuwait drives environmental sustainability of its stores through the following key initiatives:

Reducing ecological footprint through energy efficiency:

Carrefour believes in being an active contributor to local ecological balance and environment conservation. With this objective, it has installed Building Management Systems (BMS) at all its stores. The BMS facility is in compliance with Green Building Standards and includes measures such as pre-set schedule for AC, lights and exhaust fan. All Carrefour facilities are also put through regular checks to avoid excessive electricity usage. The company aims to further reduce its electricity usage by five percent in the next few years through the installation of energy efficient systems across facilities. In this regard, Carrefour has already switched all store lights to LED lighting to boost electricity savings and make store operations more environmentally sustainable.

Replacing plastic bags with eco-bags to reduce waste:

Carrefour introduced the usage of eco-bags in its stores with the aim of significantly reducing its use of plastic bags. These eco-bags are available in different sizes and can be availed at cash counters across all stores.

Majid Al Futtaim Retail supports social welfare through a series of community initiatives:

Take A moment to Give a Moment:

The “Take A Moment to Give a Moment” Festive Campaign seeks to increase awareness on underprivileged children among customers and asks them if they’re willing to donate their change for a noble cause. Carrefour’s objective is to provide great moments for children in need during festive seasons. This initiative was recently organized in December 2016 across Carrefour stores.

Together we make a difference:

The “Together we make a difference” campaign held during Ramadan is an internal initiative aimed at supporting the workforce in the Kuwait and improves health and safety standards within the workforce. The company partners with The Sameness Project, a Dubai-based social innovators spreading goodness, for this initiative. The initiative involves distributing care packs with everyday essentials from Carrefour as well as health checks for blood pressure and general medical consultation for all members of staff.

Make a difference:

The “Make a Difference” Ramadan Campaign was introduced during Ramadan 2016 and seeks to empower local communities through donating a selection of items at Carrefour’s special donation boxes located across the Kuwait. The “Make a Difference” campaign is the tenth such initiative by Majid Al Futtaim and counts as Carrefour’s most successful annual charity activations. Donors are allowed to donate a range of items including clothes, books, mobile phones and toys, which are then distributed through Red Crescent Kuwait.

Natural Disaster Response:

The Natural disaster response assistance initiative was started in 2015 in the wake of devastating earthquakes in Nepal. Within days of the earthquake, Carrefour launched a donation drive initiative, in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent to support the victims in Nepal. Carrefour also set up dedicated shelf-stands with a range of specially selected products including dry, long lasting and high energy foods, hygiene products and shelter blankets, sold at heavily discounted prices for customers to participate in the disaster response assistance.
